Egg Layers

Berg’s White Leghorn The Berg’s White Leghorn is a very good feed converter with a high rate of lay. Peak production happens by 28 weeks of age at a daily production of 94%.  These figures can be reached, but depend on day length, feed quality, water quality, uniformity, floor space, temperature, along with bio security.  This seems like a lot to ask for, but remember that in order for these birds to make money for you, you have to put in some money and time too.

PROPER PRODUCTION = BETTER PROFITS!

Black Sex Links are a breed cross using Rhode Island Red males and Barred Plymouth Rock females. The male chicks have a white spot on the top of their heads and can be separated from the solid black female chicks when they hatch. This cross, which is used in commercial layer operations, is an efficient producer of large brown eggs. They have excellent livability, and hens from this cross weigh about 5 1/2 lbs. and can be salvaged for fowl meat when their use for laying is over. This layer is one of the top egg producers of large brown eggs and performs well in all types of conditions. We have a very limited amount of these so order early and we hope to have more in the years to come.

Rhode Island Reds

Available May 1 – 26th – unsexed only-  $6.15 each

These are an old time, well-known American breed, which was developed in the state of Rhode Island. A distinct characteristic of this breed is their horizontal, oblong body, which is deep, broad and long, sometimes described as “brick shaped”. They are an excellent dual-purpose bird that efficiently produces large brown eggs. From the time they are chicks until maturity, they may have white on the wing tips, but when they are fully matured they should not have any white feathers.

Barred Plymouth Rocks

Available May 1 – 26th – unsexed only – $6.95 each

One of the most popular brown egged dual purpose breeds. These birds are born black with a white spot on their head and as they grow the feathers become barred (black and white).  They are a very docile bird with a good rate of lay.  They are a dual purpose bird, so when they do slow down in lay, they can be butchered for meat.
